Great editor!!! But I freed myself of Windoze along time ago and am quite happy with Ubuntu. Currently using GEdit with a bunch of plugins for things like code snippets etc, but really want something better like Textmate and so when I saw your editor I downloaded and tried it on a Windows box and loved it! You mentioned that you coded it with wxWidgets so you should be able to pump out a Linux version quite easily right? I will not purchase your Windows version simply because I code 8-10 hours a day and don't like Windows environment. If you put out a Linux version I commit here and now to you I will purchase a copy. As well I'm sure there are droves of people that will buy it as well. I searched before for a Textmate clone for Linux a while back and found that alot of people where searching for the same thing, so believe me that if you want to make money with this and I think you do because your not open sourcing it and giving it away, then you will have a lot of sales from Linux users and alot of happy coders. Anyways thats my request and hope you take it seriously.
Thank you for your great product.
John
UPDATE: July 1, 2007
I gave up and bought a Macbook pro and now use Textmate. Don't get me wrong I didn't buy the macbook for Textmate but because I really like OSX. I still love linux and hope there is some free linux editor that's as good as Textmate, someday... |

Hi John,
There will be coming a Linux version, but not right now. I don't want to spread myself too thin, and getting the windows version complete and stable is the main focus right now.
I will start releasing Linux versions when the windows version has stabilized. |

Just wanted to add my vote for a linux port. I'm basically the same situation as johnpipi - a penguin lover through and through. I'm checking out e on a doze box right now, and I'm pretty impressed by it so far. If it's as good as it seems to be, you've got my cash.
I'll be watching the project eagerly till then. |

| Here is yet another Ubuntu user who will buy as soon as you release the Linux version. |

Hey, v1.1 is already out. When will it be stable enough for a Linux port ?
I'm coming to this site from time to time with hope that the Linux version is ready and I can buy it. Maybe you could spend some time to release a one time version (e.g. current latest v1.1 release) for some distro (e.g. Ubuntu) and then continue to improve Windows version. |

I'm under the impression that currently we're more at v0.1.1.126 by Alexander's numbering scheme. I believe he wants to do a fair bit more work before he even consider's it fairly stable - E is still in beta right now so it's not at the "Version 1" state yet, no matter what the numbering scheme says. (Unless were like Google and v1 now means "a usable beta" and v2 means "completely finished" ) |

I'm a *minus* 1 on this, sorry guys.
There are still quite a few things that need polish and refinement (especially search & replace) and since this *is* after all a Windows version I feel that should get the highest priority, with Linux being very, very, very low on the list.
I'm curious, doesn't a product that costs money sorta go against the Linux thing? I thought you guys would be clamouring for "e" to go open source before getting it on Linux. I don't often hear Linux users that are willing to $35 for software. It's a refreshing change, I thought Linux users only clamoured for everything free while fighting over which was the "perfect" distro |

I'm sure the slogan will be changed once the Linux version is out.

Linux is about freedom. If I don't want to pay money for software, I can use free software. If I want some awesome software that kicks asses, then I can go and buy some.
I've seen lots of different editors and I like how Textmate handles different things (projects, scopes, powerful snippet engine). I want that editor! Although, as a developer I find Linux to be a more comfortable development environment. |

Just to make part of the 'very vocal minority' (read: Linux loving commies): +1
BTW, I can live with windows, as long as I have a great editor, and E is making that possible (barely though, as my Server is Linux, notebook runs Windows just for E, and this desktop might be moving to Linux too, after I'm done with some .NET project).
Cheers, and keep the excellent work! |

From http://e-texteditor.com/blog/2007/e_v10_released:

Excellent news. I'm on the verge of reluctantly switching dev work back to Windows because I just can't get happy with any of the Linux text / dev editors. Save me from that horror, Alexander! |

Can mods start deleting the linux messages?
I'm all for it as well, I'm windows at work, and linux at home, but Christ there are 4 threads on the front page of the forum (gen. discussion) about it.
This is one of the reasons non-linux users tend to dislike linux before ever using it. |
